The definition of Health has been greatly expanded from the traditional definition. Now it has become a complete state of being with regard to both mind and body. Health is a condition of mental, physical and social well being where infirmity and disease are absent. It also includes emotional, spiritual and physiological well being. The concept of health has gained much more meaning and importance than what it was in the past.

In this article I will talk about some remarkable health problems that have been occurring forty years ago that are still prevalent today. The first health problem I am going to talk about is asthma. Asthma is not just one of those diseases that you can get in the back of your throat. You will see that it shows up in print in the form of a print transcript when it affects the lung.

Another health problem I am going to bring up is diabetes. Diabetes is a condition that relates to the body’s sugar or glucose levels. A person who has diabetes does not secrete insulin from their pancreas like a normal person, instead the cells in their bodies absorb this insulin from the bloodstream. The blood glucose level of a diabetic may be too high. The cells will end up using too much sugar to make up for the lack of insulin.

Some other health problems relating to diabetes is ulcerative colitis and necrotising pancreatitis. Ulcerative colitis is inflammation of the colon or the mucous membrane. This inflammation is associated with ulcers and infection. necrotising pancreatitis is an infection that affects the pancreas.

Some other interesting health problems that affect the colon are anal fissures, carcinoma in the lining of the colon, and endometriosis. Anal fissures happen when a person has an injury or a fall whilst they are sleeping. The trauma or the fall may have caused small tears in the anus. If the anal fissure leaves a scar it can cause a condition called as anal fissure stomatitis, this condition shows text version on the print transcript.

The last condition, I am going to show you in this series is Tourette syndrome. Tourette syndrome is a disorder where people have involuntary, rapid speech. The majority of people with Tourette syndrome will have been diagnosed with diabetes, or anorexia in the past. If someone you know has been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, then the chances are that they also have some form of psychiatric illness.
